The pure wafer foundry process has entered the FinFET generation from the planar transistor structure (Planar Transistor) since 16nm, and the FinFET structure has faced physical limits since 3nm after the introduction of EUV micro imaging technology into the 7nm process. Since then, the two leading enterprises in the advanced manufacturing process have diverged. TSMC will continue the FinFET structure to mass produce 3 nanometer products in the second half of 2022. It is estimated that the products will be officially produced in the first half of 2023, and the scale of mass production will be increased quarter by quarter. In 2023, the products will include PC CPU and smart phone SoC; Samsung started to import the MBCFET architecture (Multi Bridge Channel Field Effect Transistor) based on GAAFET from 3nm. It will be officially mass produced in 2022. The first generation product is cryptocurrency mining chip. In 2023, it will be committed to the second generation 3nm process, with the goal of mass production of smart phone SoC. At the initial stage of 3nm mass production, both of them still focus on high-performance computing and smart phone platforms with high requirements for improving efficiency, reducing power consumption, and reducing chip area.
